SaLT COURSE
SaLT stands for “Servant-Leadership Training,” and is a course that has been designed and written as a tool for churches who wish to develop key leaders in their church. Originally developed and run at Summit Church in East Auckland, New Zealand (now Gracecity East), it was used to develop many of the key leaders
in that church over more than a decade. Over the years, almost
all board and staff appointments were SaLT graduates.
After a number of small changes and edits over the years, SaLT
is now being thoroughly revised, and the second edition of the course is being progressively released over 2022 and 2023.
SaLT runs over four semesters of study, normally undertaken
over two years (meeting fortnightly), although it can also be done in a year (meeting weekly). These semesters cover character
and Christian leadership (“Heart”), Christian theology (“Head”), leadership and ministry skills (“Hands”), and finally an understanding of the local church (“Church”). You can find a breakdown of each semester below.
A Leader’s Guide is also available for each of the four books.
"The latest edition of SaLT has hit the streets, and I am a big fan!
This is the third time I have taken a group of emerging or potential leaders through the SaLT course,
and from what I have experienced so far, the updated material is a step up from previous editions.
It is clear, concise, and makes for compelling reading.
And I love the fact that this edition brings with it much more homegrown content and feel.
If you are wanting a quality resource to assist your leadership training endeavours,
my suggestion is you look no further!"

INFORMATION
GUIDE
More information is available in the free Information Guide, that is available to download or print.
SaLT uses a mix of real-life case studies, biblical passages to be studies, and articles and books
to be read. The expectation is that every participant completes this homework before attending each
SaLT group meeting, where they are lead through a discussion by the course facilitator. The facilitator – normally a senior church leader such as the senior pastor or board member – is not expected to lecture or teach, but rather to facilitate an engaging discussion to help each person in the group wrestle with the issues being studied. A full leaders guide
will be available to assist with this facilitation.
Depending on the individual church, a SaLT group could include:
-
Potential elders, board members or staff that you’ve identified for the future
-
Key established leaders in the church that you’d like to develop further
-
Younger emerging leaders who you would like
to grow for the coming years
.
